The Maasplassen

Water sports paradise for all age groups

Boating or sailing, swimming or paddling, surfing or supping, wakeboarding or just enjoying the view and nature in silence: all necessary ingredients are present for a magical day in or by the water. Parc Maasresidence Thorn is located on De Grote Hegge, one of the many parts of the Maasplassen. The Maasplassen consist of larger and smaller lakes which are connected to the Meuse. Together they form a lively backdrop for water sports and recreation. A true mecca for water (sports) enthusiasts!

    • Luxury holiday park on The Maasplassen
    • More than 30 km2 of water recreation
    • Largest continuous water sports area in the Netherlands
    • Explore by boat or sloop
    • Various marinas and day beaches

Large water recreation area

Gravel excavations near the Meuse created a wetland with pools of clear water: The Maasplassen. With an area of 3,000 hectares, they form the largest continuous water recreation area in The Netherlands.
The recreational value of the wetland area is Limburg's best kept secret. The Maasplassen is perfect for sailing around with a sloop. It is a varied area of small and medium-sized ponds and lakes. You can get from one lake to another via beautiful waterways. There are many mooring options which are connected by the Meuse.

Day Beaches at the Maasplassen

In addition to MRT Beach, the day beach of the park, you will find many other beautiful day beaches in the area which offer a  wonderful stay for all ages. Prefer to be active on or by the water? Rent a canoe, pedal boat or SUP board at the park. For even more action Area X in Roermond and Fun Beach in Panheel are highly recommended.

Area X

Water recreation area Area X, located in De Weerd in Roermond, has been popular with all age groups for many years. Water sports enthusiasts can show off at the ultramodern Wakeboardbaan Beaver Creek Wake Park and then wind down next to the water on the terrace of Moby Dick or at one of the many other beach clubs. Dogs and their owners are very welcome at Doggy Beach, the first dog beach in Limburg.

Fun Beach

Fun Beach means enjoying a wonderful day at the beach in a great location next to the water. Take a refreshing dive or go on an adventure at the Aquapark. Children can enjoy themselves at Little Beach in the toddler area, discovering the bouncy castle, the trampolines and the paddling pool. Fun Beach Fountain, one of the largest fountains in the world, is an eye-catching marvel of the Maasplassen in Central Limburg.
At the Fun Beach in Panheel you can swim, paddle, go wakeboarding and flyboarding, rent pedal boats and canoes and have a full day of activities..

Cruising on the Meuse and The Maasplassen

There are round trips from Thorn, Maasbracht and Wessem which take about 2.5 hours. From the Roerkade in Roermond you can go on shorter, one-hour cruises.
Obviously you can also rent a sloop from the reception and go out on your own.

Diving in the Maasplassen

If you have a license for diving you can go practice this in the Maasplassen. At the park, in De Grote Hegge, lies the largest freshwater wreck in Europe. In addition to this, the Boschmolenplas in Panheel is a popular place for diving. The water in the lake is very clear, the visibility underwater can be up to 12 meters. There is also a diving school at the Boschmolenplas where you have the chance to learn how to dive or dive safely as a beginner.

The ideal location for a wonderful fishing holiday. If you don’t own a VISpas, you can also buy a weekly permit. With this license you can fish at:
  • the Panheelderbeek: from Tramweg take the A2 in Heel en Wessem.
  • the Thornerbeek.
  • the Itterbeek next to the Belgian border, at the inflow of the Thornerbeek.
  • Zegershof pond
